About
Ovrvue is a free weather app focused on conditions that may affect what someone does next. Instead of opening with a large collection of measurements, it prioritizes the current temperature, approaching rain, and notable conditions such as storms, poor air quality, wildfire smoke, damaging wind, low visibility, or ice. Signals appear only when they are relevant and are limited to three at a time. The app also provides a visual weekly forecast, minute-by-minute rain information, live United States radar, hourly details, and supporting measurements such as humidity, pressure, UV, wind, visibility, and precipitation totals. Forecast and model timestamps are shown separately so users can judge how current the information is. Ovrvue does not require an account, display ads, or use tracking cookies. Settings, saved locations, and the user's forecast API key remain on the device. It can also be installed on a phone's home screen.

7 storiesWhy Is Weather Radar Centered on the Radar Station Instead of You?
Weather maps often inherit the geometry of the systems that produce them: stations, tiles, coverage areas and administrative boundaries. Ovrvue’s rebuilt radar takes a different approach by centering the view on the user’s actual location. This essay explores what happens when software stops making people adapt to infrastructure and makes infrastructure adapt to people instead.

What If Your Weather App Couldn't Interrupt You?
Most apps treat notifications as a capability to maximize. Ovrvue.app takes the opposite approach: because it has no backend, it literally cannot wake itself up and start demanding attention. This essay explores what happens when a technical limitation becomes a product guarantee—and whether some software is better when annoyance is architecturally impossible.

When “Nothing” Is the Wrong Answer
Software often treats missing data as an empty state, but sometimes absence looks exactly like a real result. Weather radar makes that problem unusually visible: a blank map can mean clear skies or failed data. Ovrvue’s latest radar design explores a broader principle—graceful degradation only works when failure cannot be mistaken for truth.
