Jot Transcribe is free, on-device dictation for Mac and iPhone. Press a global hotkey, speak naturally, and your words appear as text wherever your cursor is — in Mail, Slack, an editor, or a web form. Everything happens on your device: your voice is turned into text right on your Mac, instantly and privately, with nothing sent to the cloud. Jot also lets you rewrite text by voice ("make this friendlier") using on-device Apple Intelligence, dictate long AI prompts straight into ChatGPT, Claude, or Cursor, and search a saved history of everything you've said. On iPhone it's a dictation keyboard: switch to it in any app, tap Dictate, and speak into the field. No account, no cloud, no telemetry, no usage limits. It's open source under the MIT license and completely free — unlike leading dictation apps that charge around $144 a year and send your voice to their servers. Requires Apple Silicon and macOS 14+ on Mac; free on the App Store for iPhone.
Typing is slow, and popular dictation apps are costly and send your voice to the cloud.
